Trout in the Classroom

Trout in the classroom (TIC) is a cooperative program between our local Trout Unlimited chapter (CRCTU), the Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and local school districts. It teaches selected elementary and high school students about the environment via the life cycle of trout. CRCTU has been involved with this program for over 7 years.

In the fall CRCTU provides:

  • Funding and physical equipment for an aquarium and related aquatic life support equipment
  • Training of teachers on equipment maintenance. This allows students hands on experience assisting in a stable environment for the trout eggs
  • A curriculum on the life cycle of trout
  • Delivery of new trout eggs from the local hatchery

In the spring, students take trout fry to a local river for a successful release under SCDNR supervision.
